The Post Office Monthly Income Scheme is a flagship sovereign savings instrument backed by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It offers guaranteed monthly interest income directly credited to your post office or linked bank savings account.
The maximum deposit ceiling is ₹9,00,000 for single accounts and ₹15,00,000 for joint accounts (held jointly by up to 3 adults). The scheme has a 5-year lock-in with premature closure facilities after 1 year.
With the maximum joint deposit of ₹15,00,000 at 7.4% p.a., you receive a guaranteed monthly income of ₹9,250 every month for 5 years.
Interest earned is taxable as per your income tax slab, but no TDS is deducted at source by the Post Office.
